Motorway A23
(toll;  from Austria): Tarvisio-Udine- Palmanova
The A23 joins the A4 at Palmanova.

Motorway A4  (toll, Torino - Venezia -Trieste): The toll booth to exit the motorway is at 'Lisert' (Monfalcone). This is the last exit of the motorway.

For city center and Piazzale Europa, 1:

Inland road (usually traffic  free) 
After the toll booth, proceed on SS 202 (Triestina) and take the "Prosecco - Trieste Centro" exit
(found immediately after a tunnel). Proceed for "Villa Opicina" and then for "Trieste Centro".  Piazzale Europa 1 is situated along this route.

Coastal road (panoramic, but can be very congested on week-ends and during the summer)
After the toll booth, proceed on SS 202 (Triestina) and take the "Sistiana - Trieste Centro" exit. Proceed along the coastal road (SS14, Costiera) to the main railway station ("Trieste Centrale"). From the station, proceed for "via Milano", "via del Coroneo" and "via Fabio Severo". 

SS15, Via Flavia (from Slovenia, Koper):  From the Rabuiese State Border, follow indications to the city centre.

SS 58 della Carniola (from Slovenia, Lubiana ): From the Fernetti–Opicina State Border, proceed for "Villa Opicina" and then for "Trieste Centro".  Piazzale Europa 1 is situated along this route.

Parking

In the city centre, we recommend using metered parking spaces between 8.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Prepaid cards are available. Alternatively, indoor parking facilities can be found at:

air By Plane 



Trieste Ronchi dei Legionari Airport

The Ronchi dei Legionari airport (regional airport of the "Friuli - Venezia- Giulia" region) is situated 33 km from the city centre. There are regular direct connections to Milan, Rome, Genoa,  Munich, London, Paris and Belgrade.

busA regular coach service (line 51) connects the airport to the "Trieste Centrale" main railway station (Piazza della Libertà, 11). Tickets for the coach can be bought at a vending machine outside the arrivals gate (at the exit of the terminal building). The coach platforms are situated to the right of the terminal building after the exit. It takes approximately an hour to reach the train station.

Venice Marco Polo International Airport (120 km from Trieste)

Marco Polo Airport is bigger than Ronchi dei Legionari Airport and is served by a larger number direct flights from national and international airports.

bus A shuttle bus service connects the airport to the "Venezia-Mestre" railway station (about 20 minutes). Tickets can be bought from a vending machine in the baggage reclaim hall. The bus platforms are located outside the main terminal building. A local bus (number 15) can also be used.

trenoFrom "Venezia-Mestre" there are regular regional trains to "Trieste Centrale" railway station. Trains from "Venezia-Mestre" to Trieste takes approximately 2 hours

Treviso Airport  (140 km from Trieste)

Treviso airport is a small, low-budget airport.

A shuttle bus service links the airport to the "Venezia-Mestre" Railway Station. Trieste can be reached from "Venezia-Mestre"  as indicated under Venice Marco Polo International Airport

Lubiana Airport - Slovenia (95 km from Trieste)

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport is an international airport and is served by direct flights from a number of major European cities. Unfortunately it is not conveniently connected to Trieste by public transportation. However, the University of Trieste has an  agreement with a shuttle service based in Trieste (science-bus.com) which offers reduced rates for delegate to the conference:  

1 person     120.00 EUR per person, one way
2 persons      60.00 EUR per person, one way
3 persons      45.00 EUR per person, one way

Since this shuttle service  provides transfers to Lubiana airport from Trieste very often, it is possibile that you will share the fare with other passengers not travelling with you. In this case the rate will be:

with a 2nd person from a different organisation      88.00 EUR per person, one way

The science-bus.com transfer service also provides connection  to the other listed airports.

treno By Train



There is a direct railway connections from Milan to Trieste.

All other trains operate with changes at "Venice-Mestre" and/or Bologna.

Trains to "Trieste Centrale" railway station can be taken from "Venezia-Mestre" railway station.
